Melinda Murovec loves flowers. As a child, she would make annual Christmas wreaths for her family home and her passion for flowers grew from that point on. Always having a cutting garden in every home she has lived in, Melinda would gather and create the most beautiful arrangements for weddings and events for friends and family. Feeling like she was up for a new adventure in her life, Melinda packed up and moved to Toronto to study Floral Design at the Canadian Institute of Floral Design in fall of 2011. Now, with her new diploma and amazing talent, she is back in the Okanagan and has opened up her own, little floral shop - A New Leaf - right here in Kelowna and excitedly is opening her doors early this September!
When I arrived to meet Melinda, I was just taken by her sweet kindness and laid-back personality. "I lose track of time when I am working with flowers - being around nature and creating is amazing" says Melinda. The Succulent Woman is the feminine, little figure that graces Melinda's shop entrance and it is, not doubt, one of her beautiful creations! I just fell in love with it - ca'mon, how can you not! Once I stepped inside A New Leaf's doors though and saw her floral arrangements, my jaw hit the floor! Her work is fantastic - some of the most beautiful arrangements I've seen or could even dream up! I am SO honoured to have photographed some of Melinda's work and am very excited to work with her again! Melinda, I wish for you all the best in this exciting, new adventure!
